RUBBERTOE REPLICAS ARE PLEASED TO PRESENT…THE 11TH DOCTOR’S SONIC SCREWDRIVER – 2ND EDITION!

This stunning screen accurate replica is based on the first and original four on-screen 11th Sonic Screwdrivers made for the show. These four original 11th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdrivers were all hand made back in 2009 by our chief prop-maker, creative director and company founder, Nick Robatto. In fact, Nick has made every on-screen Sonic Screwdriver that has ever been featured on the show since it’s re-launch, the one exception being the first of the 9th Doctor’s Sonics, which was made by Aztec Models (although he then went on to make subsequent versions of this prop for the 10th Doctor).

The 2nd edition of the 11th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver is made from stainless steel, brass, copper, Skynet grade aluminium, polyurethane resin, nappa leather and acrylic. It includes a custom LED lit base (USB LEAD), with the option for vertical or horizontal display, made from aluminium and Perspex. This edition also comes with a certificate of authenticity and numbered base, both signed by Nick Robatto. The 2nd edition 11th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver features four sounds and lighting effects as standard (using an adapted CO chip, as in our previous edition ). As with the 1st edition, the 2nd edition also features the sliding/flicking mechanism with opening claws. The 2nd edition also features a screw-threaded slider mechanism, made from stainless steel which replaces the aluminium slider and brass rod of the previous edition. This gives added smoothness, strength and stability – if flicking is your thing, you can flick away to your heart’s content.

THE ORIGINAL FOUR FILMING PROPS

During the proto-typing process for this second edition, Nick went back to reference the four original sonics for dimensions and finishes. There are many subtle differences between the original sonics and the subsequent later versions, which we have incorporated into this beautiful replica. Key differences include:

  • Small grub-screw on the white resin handle and other locations to reproduce the original construction

  • More rounded top collar with two visible grub screws

  • Mystical flappy hinged end cap with the not so secret red button with magnetic catch

  • Original lens shape taken from one of the first four props

  • High gloss finish on all green resin parts, which include both black and white resin streaks. Only the first few versions of the on-screen prop included black pigment in the green resin, which was made with more of a streak effect than a swirl. Subsequent versions were changed to just white swirls.

  • Claw shape taken from the original CAD file used on ALL 11th screen used sonics. The only exceptions to this are claws on the very first sonic made, which were hand made by Nick.

  • Original bead shape featuring more of a continuous curve rather than simply bevelled edges

  • Angled bevels on the claw hinge

  • Original dimensions on multiple parts that differ from our 1st edition

  • Internal locking system to prevent rotation of the copper body and leather handle

  • Internal slider is now a one piece construction made from stainless steel

OTHER INFORMATION

Images shown are not the final product , this is the protoype. The final product will not differ at all from the prototype, apart from minor adjustments in the position of the lower brass rivets and size of the centre copper body.

Over time aluminium will tarnish and the copper will patina. Should you wish to keep the sonic shiny then we recomend using CapeCod metal polishing cloths.

The white handle will eventually yellow due to UV exposure and handling.

Display base has a USB plug.

The sonic comes supplied with batteries, replace them with 3 x AG5. These can be found online or at your friendly battery store.
